The woman that started it all!

The woman that started it all!.jpg

Happy Monday! Here’s to the woman that started it all. My grandmother is straight off the boat from Italy and godbless her she's 86 years young. She’s taught us all the tricks of her culinary trade, writes nothing down and nails it every single time. I’ve been spending more and more time with her in the kitchen and videotaping it all, because let’s face it, we won’t have her forever.

As we cook in the kitchen she tells me the stories of her life as a young girl in Naples, Italy -  to meeting my grandfather for the first time, only after they were married, yikes! To breaking the mold during the 1950’s and renting the top level of her triplex to a family from Jamaica, “I don’t see color” she stated, they needed a home and we had one available. “We dared anyone to say anything to us,'' she said with her broken, raspy- Italian accent. (I thought it fitting to add this story in here, being the times that we’re in)

She’s a go-getter and still today, wakes up with a fire in her belly. I’ve grown even more in “awe” of her - her relentless, spunky attitude gets you laughing your ass off all the time. Her captivating stories will leave you wanting more. After speaking with her, I realize how lucky we “ALL”  are to be able to live in this day in age, where we have choices and everything is at our disposal. We should take nothing for granted. I do have to add that she is very proud of me with my Coley’s Crumbs company and only wishes me the best. I couldn’t ask for more. We are so very lucky to have her! Love you grandma.

A snip of a video of us cooking will be out soon, keep an eye out for it.

Have a great week everyone!
